In 2001, when the original Halo Combat Evolved was released, I had a lot of nocturnal fun with it. The combination of a space war setting, sauced with fluent FPS controls on the rhythm of an ambient soundtrack, did really work well for me.
Now, 19 years later, I am having the same fun again, this time with the remastered version Halo CE Anniversary from the Master Chief Collection. Below some impressions of how exquisite the game is and will stay forever, no matter how many remakes Microsoft still has planned for it.
Sniping is awesome, too bad you can’t carry more than two weapons in Halo CE.
Some views are amazing and look really modern, because of improved lightning and texture quality.
This pistol is my favorite weapon, it is really accurate.
The flying alien ships are often hard to shoot down, as it should be.
Of course the Warthog is here also a great weapon to crush enemies under its wheels.
Spoiler Alert: ending of Guilty Spark – one of the most difficult but also enjoyable levels I had so far…
