Since I had finished Dragon Age – Origins after almost 40 hours of playtime, I did not want to leave the RPG scene immediately. So I gave Morrowind a second try, after embellishing it with a lot of patches and mods and I have no regrets so far! Below I’ve provided a detailed documentation of my setup.
Here’s the list of tools and mods in the exact order I used/installed them. As always, taking a backup of your Morrowind installation before starting with this is not really a bad idea.
- Install the Morrowind Patch v1.6.6_beta (still documented here but not longer available for download, so please contact me if you’d like to receive it) by copying the files into the Morrowind installation path in the Data Files subfolder.
- Optimize Morrowind.exe by patching it with exeOpt.exe 1.9 from here.
- Install the 4GB Patch from here as well for this exe.
- Install MGE XE Installer-41102-0-11-6-1560626385.exe from here to be able to configure the desired resolution, advanced graphics settings and shaders in the MGexeGUI tool. I also enlarged my fonts by setting the value in the Menu UI scaling option to 4.00 (for 4K resolution).
- Download and activate the following mods from nexusmods.com in the mentioned order in Nexus Mod Manager:
- Sotha Sil Expanded 2.0
- Sotha Sil Expanded 2.2 update
- Sotha Sil Expanded – Gestalt Revoiced (for improved voices)
- Run Morrowind Launcher.exe, go to Data Files, activate all Master Files and exit again. Afterwards launch the game from Nexus Mod Manager.
For teasing purposes, some footage of my current Morrowind experience. Enjoy your journey!
