I never tried the original Kingdoms of Amalur, nor it’s RR-version which was released this year, as the game seemed just a lower-class mix of Skyrim and Dragon Age offering nothing additional to the RPG genre.
But after all, it proved to deliver me a better experience than Divinity 2. Although things went maybe a bit too easy on the ‘Normal’ difficulty.
It took me only 32 hours to complete the game, including some random side questing. The vast worlds contain a lot of beautiful landscapes, as the images prove here.
I would not call the game an indie-version of Skyrim though as to me, the lore and story of the Elder Scrolls franchise seem just unbeatable.
But when I ever return to KoA, it will be especially for its very solid combat. I had much more fun fighting enemies and bosses in KoA than in Skyrim or Dragon Age together. So yes, after all, this game can be considered as a very welcome member of the RPG family. Let’s hope for a franchise…
