AC Valhalla was a great experience in regards to the story, but from a technical point of view a kind of disaster for me. The game crashed too often with a ‘Nvidia driver is not responding’ error. My RTX 3090 really had problems to handle the Anvil engine, resulting in many driver crashes including LiveKernel Event 4101 errors.
Luckily, I have found a workaround for that. After days of thoroughly testing, I can confirm as solution in my case is that I had to put my GPU for AC Valhalla into legacy line-based mode, using the MSI Util v3 tool.
So when you experience driver-related crashes in this game, my first advice is to just disable MSI-mode for your GPU driver by unchecking the Msi value for your video card within this tool, immediately reboot and hopefully enjoy. For more technical background information, see here.
By doing this, graphical IRQ’s will just happen the way they did for a GTX 10xx series card, and maybe that’s just better for this game until it’s finally fixed.
